This before-and-after case shows the results of gum grafting with a free gingival graft (FGG) to treat gum recession and increase the thickness of the gum tissue.
A free gingival graft is a type of gum graft surgery that uses the patient’s own tissue, typically taken from the roof of the mouth. The tissue is carefully placed in the area affected by gum recession to help cover the recession and create a thicker, more stable band of gum tissue.
The before image shows the area of receding gums prior to treatment. The after image demonstrates the improvement following the FGG gum graft, with increased gum tissue thickness and coverage of the recession.
Free gingival grafting may be recommended when the gums are thin or there is an inadequate amount of firm, protective gum tissue around a tooth. By increasing the thickness and amount of gum tissue, an FGG can help create a healthier and more stable environment around the tooth.
This gum grafting before-and-after case demonstrates how a free gingival graft can be used to treat gum recession while improving the thickness and stability of the surrounding gum tissue.
