Replacing Old Filling (Case 43)

This patient came to our Washington, DC dental office with an old dental filling that had begun to fail. Over time, fillings can develop wear, leakage, or recurrent decay around the edges, allowing bacteria to enter and compromise the tooth. During treatment, we carefully removed the failing filling and evaluated the underlying tooth structure to ensure no additional damage was present.

The new restoration restores the tooth's strength, function, and appearance while creating a seamless, natural-looking result. Replacing failing fillings early can help prevent larger problems such as cavities, fractures, root canals, or the need for dental crowns in the future.
